Navarathri Sangeetholsavam Thiruvananthapuram is one of Kerala's renowned celebrations of Carnatic classical music. Held during Navarathri, the festival is closely associated with the musical heritage of Travancore and composer-king Swathi Thirunal.
Its principal venue is the historic Navarathri Mandapam in the East Fort palace complex, close to the eastern entrance of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Kuthira Malika. Kerala Tourism currently lists the 2026 festival from 11 to 21 October.
What makes it special?
Navarathri Sangeetholsavam is more than a conventional concert series. The performances traditionally function as a musical offering to Goddess Saraswati, with Swathi Thirunal's Navarathri Kritis forming an important part of the tradition.
The Mandapam itself is remarkable. Earthen pots of different shapes and sizes suspended from the ceiling contribute to its natural acoustics, while flowers, incense and traditional oil lamps create an atmosphere very different from a modern concert hall.
Evening concerts traditionally run from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, following a disciplined format that reflects both the musical and devotional character of the festival.
