How do we get around?

✈️airplane
this is the fastest way to travel between major Indian cities
from Trivandrum, there are daily flights to Bangalore, Delhi and many others, we recommend IndiGo and AirIndia, interestingly, there are also direct flights to the Maldives and Sri Lanka — just about an hour away, and a great experience if you’d like to visit
💡 domestic flight tickets in India are noticeably cheaper when booked 2–3 weeks in advance
🚍KSRTC bus
this is the most affordable and comfortable way to travel between Kovalam and Trivandrum, buses run every 15–20 minutes, with tickets costing around ₹20–25. main routes go to East Fort and LuLu Mall, and the journey takes about 40 minutes
buses stop anywhere along Beach Road, and you can pay either in cash or via UPI
💡 during the day, buses to LuLu Mall run less frequently than in the morning or evening — keep that in mind when planning your trip
🚌 Intercity bus
there are both state-run buses (see KSRTC) and private operators (see redBus), with fares varying greatly depending on distance and class (air conditioning, seating type, etc.).
the main bus station is here
💡 choose morning or night departures — they’re less likely to be delayed
💳 online booking and payment are only available with an Indian bank card, so it’s usually easier to buy tickets directly at the station — or contact us, and we’ll help arrange them for you
🚄 Train
this is the most convenient way to travel around Kerala, especially if you choose Vande Bharat — India’s most modern and punctual train
other trains run at a slower pace, so it’s important to choose your class and onboard options carefully
💡 tickets are best booked in advance, especially during holidays and festival seasons.
💳 the official IRCTC website accepts payments only from Indian accounts, so it’s often easier to buy tickets directly at the station — or contact us, and we’ll help you arrange them
🚖 taxi and 🛺
in Trivandrum, both Uber and Ola operate — they’re convenient, safe and have fixed fares, with both cars and tuk-tuks available.
however, near the coast (in Kovalam and Varkala), booking can be tricky: local driver unions often block app orders, and intercity trips might simply be refused
💡 if you’re not using an app, negotiate the fare — drivers can overcharge, especially for short distances. check the price and distance in an app beforehand to have a fair idea before bargaining.
🛵 Scooter and motorcycle rental
a budget-friendly and convenient way to explore the surroundings — or even set off on a longer journey, scooter rentals cost around ₹400–600 per day, while motorbikes are a bit more expensive, petrol is about ₹108 per litre, and fuel stations are easy to find everywhere, you’ll need to be confident on two wheels and give yourself a couple of days to adapt to local traffic, the golden rule: 🪖 always wear a helmet — no exceptions,
you can rent directly in Kovalam, though finding a more powerful bike may take some effort
💡 take photos on pickup, noting the fuel level and any scratches — it’ll save you money and help avoid misunderstandings when returning the vehicle
🚘 car rental
if you’re craving freedom and tired of passive holidays, car rentals are available in Trivandrum and at the airport,
vehicles are issued with a deposit and a mileage limit
💰 prices start from ₹2500 per day, with fuel paid separately and mileage restrictions, plus insurance. average speed in traffic is around 30 km/h — roads are narrow (especially in the hills), and traffic rules are more of a suggestion than a standard, but if you already have experience driving on the left side, why not give it a try?
💡 always check the terms carefully and ask for the total cost upfront, as there can be plenty of small details hidden in the fine print
🚙 car with driver
the perfect option if you’d like to see several places in a day or explore the mountains and national parks, you can hire a car by route or per day, without being tied to a fixed location,
prices are similar to self-drive rentals — from ₹3500 per day within the city and from ₹5000 for mountain routes, if you already know where you want to go, contact our trusted driver directly,if you’d like help creating a personalised route to suit your needs, get in touch with us — we’ll be happy to assist
