Onam Pageantry 2026 Trivandrum's Grand Closing Procession

If you only choose one major public event during Onam in Trivandrum, this should be very high on your list. 🥁🌼🎭

On the evening of August 30, Onam Tourism Week concludes with its traditional Onam Pageantry - a huge cultural procession through central Thiruvananthapuram.

This is much more than a parade of decorated floats.

For several hours, the city centre becomes a moving stage filled with musicians, percussion ensembles, dancers, folk performers, colourful costumes and cultural traditions from Kerala and beyond.

Kerala Tourism describes the grand procession as the traditional finale of the capital's week-long Onam celebrations.

🎭 What to Expect in 2026 Onam Pageantry 2026

This year's procession is expected to feature more than 100 art forms and cultural traditions, including performances representing Kerala as well as other Indian states.

Representatives of 62 government departments will also take part in the pageantry.

For first-time visitors to Kerala, this is one of the easiest ways to see an extraordinary range of traditions in a single evening rather than travelling to separate festivals and performances around the state.

📅 Sunday, August 30, 2026 🕔 5:00 PM

📍 Start: Manaveeyam Veedhi 🏁 Finish: East Fort The procession will travel through central Trivandrum before concluding at historic East Fort, close to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple area.

💡 Our Tip

Do not arrive at 5 PM.We would aim to be in the area by around 4:00–4:15 PM so you have time to find a good viewing spot.Special traffic and parking restrictions are in force across central Trivandrum from 2 PM until midnight during Onam Tourism Week, and August 30 is likely to be particularly busy.

We would avoid trying to park right next to Manaveeyam. Public transport, a taxi or an autorickshaw followed by a short walk will probably be much easier.

Bring water and comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to follow the procession for part of its route.

🌼 Why Go

Onam is often associated with pookalam flower carpets, sadya feasts and the story of King Mahabali. The closing procession shows a completely different side of the festival - public, loud, colourful and spectacular.

This is Onam moving out of people's homes and onto the streets.

If you are in Trivandrum on August 30, we would keep the evening free for this.
